Supernormal, known for fine dining, is one of the city’s most popular fusion eateries. The place has a distinctly Japanese feel and flavour to its meals, but it is not only about one cuisine. The food has shades of Shanghai, Seoul and Hong Kong too. They have some classic fare on the menu, like pork buns and Szechuan eggplant, but add some creative twists to it to make it different. The place is reasonably priced, and the service is quite average.

3. Rice Paper Scissors

This Asian fusion restaurant serves fresh, organic Vietnamese street food with a Thai twist. The menu is big enough for even the biggest eaters, and plenty of vegan-friendly options are available. Be sure to try the Fried Chicken, Chicken Popcorn, Banh Bao, Tempura Prawn buns and Vietnamese Espresso Martini!

Whether you want to do a takeaway or dine in or drive through to eat your favourite Asian food, HoChi Mama has got you covered. The place offers classic Asian favourites like Peking Duck Dumplings, Drunken Chicken and Pork Hock with Apple Kimchi Pancakes and Hoisin. Rest assured; you will have a great time. They have a vegan-friendly menu though the service may get a tad rushed.

Located in the basement of the Adelphi Hotel in one of Melbourne’s most eclectic districts, this restaurant serves Australian-style freestyle cuisine with an interesting and surprising twist. From weekday lunches to pre-theatre dinners, Gingerboy offers a variety of menu options that vary in price and intensity. Popular dishes include Son-in-law Eggs and smashed Green Papaya Salad.

9. Kekou

If you want brilliant Asian fusion dishes, craft beer, cool industrial chic décor and a great cocktail list, head to Kekou at Richmond. The menu showcases exciting pan-Asian food sprinkled with Aussie touches. Sunda is modern-Asian at its best, combining a mix of Malaysian, Indonesian and Vietnamese fare to create something innovative and new. While you can only order a four-course menu, your tastebuds will love you as you dive into dishes like Chickpea Cake, Walnut Cake , Berkshire Pork and Koshihikari Congee.

13. Future Future

You will love Future, Future on Richmond’s Swan Street if you love Japanese. With a rooftop deck, the place is Japanese in every respect, from its menu to its architecture and service. But it all comes with a twist. It is inventive, unique and pretty cool. Their excellent and fresh cocktails are worth a try, but the portions are small.

14. Indu

Indu place brings Sri Lankan and South Indian flavours to Melbourne. Its dishes are all coastal and village-inspired, using the freshest and most seasonal produce. With classic Mysore Potato Masala Dosa on the menu, crispy Chickpea Fritters, and Goan Pork Belly Curry, Indu will transport you to its region of origin. The food is flavourful and different.

15. Firebird

Firebird is the place for some Vietnamese-style food that’ll make you feel you are in the streets of Vietnam. This is Asian fusion, complete with smoky finishes and plenty of wood-fire charring. They have tantalising dishes like Duck L’ Orange, Pork Chop, Fire-tossed Pipis and Charred Cabbage. Though the food is excellent, service is a tad slow.
